A footpath has been constructed to connect Khairbarahi (Khairbharani) lake, a religious tourist site of Annapurna rural municipality-5 of Myagdi. The footpath was built with the help of 1 crore 7 million donations.
In 10 years under the leadership of Khairbharani Than and Area Protection and Management Committee, a footpath connecting Khairbarahi Lake through Paudwar village to Lawreni-Khopra (Khopara), Khairkhola, as well as construction of sidewalks and drinking water facilities have been provided. Raju Pun, the founder of the
committee, informed that Paudwar and neighboring villagers and devotees have built a footpath and chautari in memory of their deceased relatives. Under the leadership of a retired British Gorkha soldier, a footpath construction campaign to connect Paudwar-Khairbarani Lake was started from 2072.
'In our efforts to connect the old custom of building a square and road in the name of deceased relatives with religious tourism, local residents as well as devotees from other places who come to worship in Khairbarahi have supported us,' Pun said, 'with the help of 67 people in 10 years, 27 Five kilometers of footpaths have been built.'
He said that with the help of seventeen donors, 4.5 kilometers of footpaths were constructed in Paudwar-Lareni section, 11 kilometers in Lawreni-Khopra section with the help of 23 people and 12 km in Khopra-Khair section with the help of 27 people. Hariprasad Tilija, a resident of Paudwar, said that after the construction of the footpath with stone steps on the steep side, it has become easier for the locals, devotees and tourists to move around.
With the help of donors, shelters and drinking water have been arranged in various places. Tourism infrastructure has been built targeting the famous religious site Khayr Bharani Than in the lap of Annapurna and Barah Shikhar Himals and the famous religious site Khayr Lake in the lake complex . Donors who are not in the village have built footpaths and infrastructure by mobilizing local workers with the facilitation of the committee. Inscriptions detailing the builder have been placed on the sidewalks and walkways.
Rajesh Tilija Pun, the ward president of Annapurna rural municipality-5, said that the community has invested more in the construction of tourism infrastructure in Khopra, Khayar area than the government agencies. For the construction of infrastructure in the area, 32 million rupees have been spent in the last two years through the Office of Tourism and Industry, and about 2 million rupees have been spent from the Annapurna Rural Municipality.
A special fair is held on Janaipurnima festival at Khairbarahi lake called "Khairbarani" by the locals. In Khairbharani, it is customary to offer prayers and darshan on the day of Janaipurnima to fulfill one's wishes and to offer sacrifices after fulfillment of wishes. On the day of Janaipurnima, about 1,200 devotees reach Khairbarahi.
Tourists arrive to see the lake and this area on days other than Janaipurnima. Khopra Lake on the road from Paudwar to Khayr has been developed as a tourist destination. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna snow range, mountain topography, sunrise and sunset can be observed from Khopra Lake which is 3,660 meters above sea level.
This place known as Khopra in the tourism field is called 'Khopara' by the locals. Paudwar cooperative society has operated a community lodge in Khopra . Chauri and sheep and goats' mobile sheds are also the attraction of Khopra, Khair region. Khopra can be reached in one day from Paudwar and Khairbarahi lake in two days' walk.
