Farmers of Pokhara Metropolitan City-28 Kafalghari have become attracted towards kagunokheti in view of the growing problem of monkeys.
Since the monkeys eat and destroy the crops every year, the local people who have been doing kaguno farming since 2075 are now collectively attracted towards this farming.
Kagunokheti monkeys eat less than other farms, said Ambika Bhandari, the president of Kafalghari community development organization Aama Group.
According to him, in recent years, Kagunokheti has been cultivated in an area of more than 60 plants in the Kafalghari region. Kaguno has been cultivated since ancient times, especially in the hilly areas of Nepal.
This crop, which is produced even on land without irrigation facilities, belongs to the millet crop. This grain, which is a multi-nutrient food, contains elements like protein, iron and calcium.
Since it has solid fiber, eating its dishes makes digestion easier. It is considered more healthy for diabetic patients. Manhar Kadaria, head of the Agricultural Development Branch of the Metropolitan Municipality, informed that there is a lot of potential for its cultivation in the hilly terrain as it produces good crops even without irrigation and is eaten less by monkeys.
In view of the attraction of farmers towards kagunokheti, he said that the minimum support price of the metropolitan city has been fixed at 120 rupees per kg.
