10,000 support to farmers rearing bulls

Fedikhola rural municipality of Syangja has given subsidy to the farmers raising Halgoru. Ghanshyam Subedi, chairman of the rural municipality, said that the grant was given to the farmers raising bullocks with the aim of protecting the traditional agricultural system and providing economic incentives to the farmers.

Recently, as the trend of abandoning bullock rearing in the villages is increasing, a subsidy of Rs. Incentive grants have been provided after collecting the data of bulls from all the five wards of Fedikhola rural municipality.

224 farmers have been covered under the incentive subsidy program for the farmers rearing bulls. He said that 1,445,000 subsidies were distributed for a total of 290 bulls. Through this program, the rural municipality expects to help to preserve the economic, social, environmental and cultural importance.

'Incentive grants to farmers rearing bulls seem to have an impact especially economically, socially, environmentally and culturally,' he said, 'raising the morale of farmers has given a positive signal towards a sustainable, self-reliant and culturally rich agricultural system.' He believes that the production cost of farmers will decrease and the income will increase, and it will help in the revival of collective labor and traditional agricultural practices.

Emphasis is placed on promoting environment-friendly methods instead of plowing using mechanical technology. "Recently, the practice of keeping oxen is disappearing, our tradition is disappearing," he said. Bhagwandev Yadav, head of Fedikhola Rural Municipality's Livestock Development sub-branch, said that 75 percent of the rural municipality's subsidy and 25 percent of the farmers' cost share in this program.

The application was collected from the ward after the municipality published the notification regarding the incentive subsidy to the farmers rearing Halgoru. He said that the people's representatives and employees will go to every house based on the collected petitions and after verification, the money will be deposited in the bank account of the concerned farmer.

'Even if one bull reared by a single farmer or one bull reared by two farmers is made, the municipality gives 75 percent subsidy as an incentive,' he said, 'The process has been completed after collecting all the data of the farmers rearing bulls.'
