Construction of the headrace tunnel has been started from the outlet of Upper Myagdi-1 hydropower project with a capacity of 53.5 MW under construction in Dhawalagiri and Malika Rural Municipality. Digging of the tunnel has been started from the outlet located in Malika rural municipality-7 Bharbang, where the powerhouse of the project is located.
Inaugurating the work of digging the tunnel, Beg Prasad Garbuja, President of Malika Rural Municipality, asked to mobilize the necessary equipment and manpower for the construction of the project and to complete the project within the stipulated time . Along with this, tunnels are being dug from four places in this project.
Earlier, the project's dam site Dhawalagiri rural municipality-4, Khamla and Chhahri, tunnels are being dug on two sides . Jyoti Kumar KC, the project head, said that the tunnel being constructed from the audit side and the tunnel starting from the outlet will be one kilometer and 865 meters long. According to him, in this project, a five-kilometer, seven-hundred-meter tunnel will be constructed from the dam to the power house.
The project promoted by Myagdi Hydropower Limited is constructing a 15-meter high and 40-meter long dam at Dhawalagiri-4 Khamla to divert water from the Myagdi River into the tunnel. The project chief KC informed that Luna Builders and Contactor, the civil contractor who entered into the contract on 19th Chait 2080 and completed the work area on 28th Baisakh 2081, has arranged sufficient manpower, construction materials and equipment at the construction site. The project has accelerated the construction of dams, tunnels and powerhouses with the goal of producing electricity by February 2083.
198.90 meter long audit tunnel of Chhahri, 76.54 meter long tunnel started from the dam side and one more kilometer 270.67 meter main tunnel has been constructed from the audit . 20 percent physical progress has been made towards the dam site of the project.
Under the leadership of Sanima Bank, the project will be built with an investment of Rs. 11 billion 230.7 million, which will be raised through loans from six banks, promoter companies and shares of the general public. By constructing a transmission line of 132 KV capacity from Bharwang, the Nepal Electricity Authority is constructing a 132 KV substation at Malika-7 Dadakhet, and an annual average of 315.01 gigawatt hours of electricity will be connected to the central line from this project.
