Till April of the current financial year, 12,259 foreign tourists have visited Manaslu region of North Gorkha. According to the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), this number is the highest ever.
Santosh Sherchan, head of MCAP informed that 9,782 tourists visited the area in 2080/81, 7,705 in 2079/80 and 2,284 tourists in 2078/79. According to him, the number of tourists is increasing every year. Stating that 98.07 percent of the target has been achieved since MCAP has set a target of 12,500 tourists in the year 2081/82, he said that it is estimated that tourism will exceed the target in the current year.
'The arrival of tourists was low after the Covid-19', project head Sherchan said, 'in 2077/78, only one hundred and 94 tourists reached the area.'
The head of MCAP, Sherchan, informed that it has been arranged that tourists from SAARC countries have to pay Rs 1,000 per person and tourists from other countries have to pay Rs 3,000 per person to enter Manaslu area. According to him, it has been arranged that tourists can submit the entry fee at the counters at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu and Damsite in Pokhara.
'Tourists who have not paid the entry fee in both these places will have to pay double the fee at the check post in Jagat and Samagaon of MCAP to enter the area', Chief Sherchan said. He informed that there is a provision for tourists to take permission from the Immigration Department to visit the Manaslu Conservation Area as it is considered a prohibited area. The
department gives a week's permission to visit Chum and Nubri Valley. Santosh Sherchan, head of MCAP, said that during the tourist season, tourists have to pay 50 dollars per person for Chumvalley and only 25 dollars in off-season. According to him, for Nubri Valley, there is a provision to pay 70 dollars per person in the season and 35 dollars in the base season. If you want to visit more days than a week, you have to pay an additional fee . There are seven wards of Chumanubri rural municipality under Manaslu area.
Sirdibas, Lho, Prok, Bihi, Samagaon, Chumchet and Chekampar gauis of Savik are covered by the conservation area . Out of which Samagaon, Lho, Prok and Bihi gavis of Savik are known as Nubri Valley while Chumchet and Chekampar are known as Chum Valley. Manaslu area has been opened for tourists since 1995.
