After a decade, the happiness on Ram Bahadur's face

88-year-old Ram Bahadur Gurung of Gumda village started seeing the world after a decade. His son-in-law Karnamahila Gurung, who had lost both his eyesight for the past 10 years, carried him to the school yard. Like him, 48 other people have also started to see their eyes.

Gurung's eye surgery was done in a surgery camp organized in his village last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. At the scheduled time, the team led by senior ophthalmologist Kamal Bahadur Khadka started opening the eyelids in a hurry . His turn was the last.

When the doctor opened Gurung's eyelids, he got up from the chair he was sitting on and slowly opened his eyelids . I saw a colorful world that had been dark for a decade. He, my son-in-law, pointed to Karnamahila, who had brought him from home. Doctor Gurung suggested not to rush to look everywhere. He thanked the doctor who showed him the world .

It has been 10 years since 88-year-old Ram Bahadur Gurung of Gumda, Dharche Rural Municipality-5 of Gorkha, lost his sight in both eyes. "In 2068, I lost my right eye due to being hit by a plow blade, four years later I also lost sight in my left eye", said Gurung.

Since then, Gurung began to feel alienated from his home, and his relatives were like strangers. After he could not walk on his own, the family had to put him to sleep, pick him up, feed him and take him to the toilet.

'I used to know by voice . I gradually stopped recognizing the voice as it faded away . Gurung said, "The old woman is also sick at home, and the son is abroad". A daughter-in-law should take care of the housework, we should take care of the elderly, take care of the grandchildren. I thought that even if I could not do anything else in my old age, I would be able to do my work myself . That dream has come true today", said Gurung, who got the sight of his eyes after the operation.

After the surgery, Karnamaila is also happy after her father-in-law can walk on his own. "Old man, it's going to be very strange when he won't be able to see it," he said. If this happens, it will be very easy for the family.'

A free eye camp was conducted in Gumda with the financial support of Mutu Foundation and Manoj Association France and the technical support of Matrika Eye Foundation. Four hundred and seven people from Dharcheko Gumda, Singla, Lapsibot, Yamgaon, Khanigaon and surrounding areas took service in the camp. In the camp, 49 people including Ram Bahadur underwent cataract surgery.

A team led by senior ophthalmologist Dr. Kamal Bahadur Khadka served in the camp which lasted for three days. Dr. Khadka said that he is happy to come to a difficult place and serve the elderly. 'The village is like this, how much sorrow and how much happiness . Anyway, I got a chance to serve this far. I am happy", he said.
