A gang of organized thieves has been arrested in Pokhara. District Police Office Kaski has announced the arrest of 5 people involved in theft and gold and silver merchants who bought stolen goods through a press conference on Friday.
Police arrested 26-year-old Subas Wik of Shuklagandaki Municipality-10 Sankhe, 23-year-old Bimal Wik of the same place, 22-year-old Ganesh Sunar of Shuklagandaki-11, Syangja Putlibazar Municipality-9 Suresh Wik, 33-year-old resident of Pokhara-2 and Durga Bahadur Thapa, 53-year-old resident of Syangja Kalkhu and Pokhara-10 on various dates since May 26.
12 tola 8 red gold jewelery including rings, gold bars, necklaces, garlands, mangalsutras, chadke tilharis were seized, District Police Office Kaski Chief SP Shyambabu Olia informed. He said that silver jewelery worth 24 tolas including rings, sikri, bala, pauju, churi and other items used for theft were recovered. This gang has reported to the police that they have stolen property worth 69 lakh 3 thousand 260 rupees. He said that as more complaints continue to come in, the number of theft cases involving them and the stolen property may increase.
The arrested Subas and Durga Bahadur are cousins. Suwas used to bring the stolen jewelery to Durga Bahadur's Syangja Kolmakot gold and silver shop at Pokhara-10 Rambazar. The arrested Bimal is the son of Subas's grandfather. It has been revealed that Bimal used to steal fragrances.
The motorcycle number 22 P 4989 used in the theft is also stolen. This motorcycle was given to Subas by his brother. Dai Nar Bahadur Wik is in jail in the arms and ammunition case. Ganesh and Suresh, who were involved in the incident, are the sons of Fupu from the schemer Subas. They are Kaligarh.
It has been revealed that this gang steals in places where there is no CCTV, only steals jewelery and cash. They have given an initial statement that they have stolen in 12 places. DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, Information Officer of District Police Office Kaski, said that thefts were discovered at 9 places in Pokhara Metropolitan City and 3 places in Tanahun.
It has been found that Suwas has been imprisoned for 5 years and a fine of 350,000 has been paid before. He was released on May 10, 1979 after paying the prison sentence handed down by the Kaski District Court on June 14, 1974. Then he also went to Qatar for 3 months to work. After his return, he was again involved in theft along with his brothers and uncle.
Gold and silver shop owner Durga Bahadur was investigated by District Police Office Kaski in 057 and 064 in a public case, and in 080 by Ward Police Office Walling Syangja for theft and robbery related crimes.
The police have also seized the motorcycle used in the theft and the scooter with the number C 21 P 6753. The police have started further investigation after extending the deadline from the Kaski district court in the case of theft and robbery.
