The Gandaki state government has provided grants for the upgradation of 15 community and public libraries in Gandaki. The Ministry of Social Development, Youth and Sports of the province allocated a budget of 3.7 million for the library upgrade grant program in the current financial year.

According to Hira Bahadur Thapa Magar, an officer of the Ministry, seven libraries have received grants at the rate of three lakhs and eight libraries at the rate of two lakhs. According to the Ministry, the program has been implemented and the monitoring and payment process has been started. The Ministry has been providing subsidies for the upgradation of community and public libraries in the province every year. Only libraries that meet the criteria by asking for a

proposal are selected for the grant. Library registration, regular operation, annual action plan, institutional governance, etc. are selected for grants. Last year, the budget of 3 million was distributed, but this year it has been increased to 37 million. There is a provision that the library should spend the grant budget on the purchase of books, furniture, information technology, etc. By developing the library as a community study center, the aim is to strengthen the identity of Gandaki province by managing the reading materials on geography, history, art, literature, culture, tourism and other subjects.
