1 billion 29 million water supply project in Pokhara

A tripartite agreement has been reached to build three drinking water projects within Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality. Water supply will be provided through two projects of the Water and Sewerage Management Department in three rural wards of Pokhara that do not receive water from the Water Supply Institute.

 

A tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed on Thursday to construct, operate and implement the Kanhudharahara drinking water project under the climate-adapted comprehensive project in Pokhara-11, the comprehensive Bharatpokhari-Nirmalpokhri-Krishti drinking water project and the Mattikhan drinking water project under the central drinking water project covering Pokhara 21 and 33 .

Project Chief of Pokhara Federal Water Supply and Sewage Management Project Padam Bahadur Kunwar Chhetri, Chief Administrative Officer Shivraj Choulagai on behalf of Pokhara Metropolitan City and all 3 Water Supply Project Presidents have signed the memorandum of understanding.  It will take an estimated 1 billion 29 crore 49 lakh 58 thousand 978 rupees to complete the construction of

It is estimated that 5 thousand 100 households will benefit from this. In the first phase of Rs 28 crore 49 lakh 91 thousand 828 out of Rs 51 crore 77 lakh 76 thousand 202 for the construction of Brihat Pokhari, Nirmal Pokhari, Kristi water supply project, the Ministry of Finance has assured resources .

Water will be collected and processed in the state-of-the-art water treatment center under construction in Pokharel Thok under the comprehensive Bharatpokhri-Nirmalpokhri-Krishti water supply project. After that, water will be delivered to homes through 35 km long pipes including 17 km seamless. About 2,400 households will benefit from this project, said Dataram Acharya, chairman of the consumer committee. In this project, 11 tanks of 20 to 200 cubic meters will be built.  

Under the Kahundharahara water supply project, water will be distributed through a 17 km pipeline by building a processing center in Kahun. It is estimated that around 1,500 households will be benefited. Under this project, one tank of 300 cubic meters and 2 tanks of 100 cubic meters will be constructed.

Water will be pumped from Seti river through sump bell under Mattikhan water supply scheme. Water will be collected and distributed in Nuwakot of Fedikhola Rural Municipality of Syangja. For this, a 35 km long pipeline will be extended. Under this project, 8 water tanks of 35 and 150 cubic meters will be constructed. The goal of this project is to distribute water to 1,200 households.

All the 3 projects will be operated according to the concept of one house, one stream. The project should be completed within 30 months from the date of implementation. 90% of the total cost of the project will be spent by the Federal Water and Sewerage Management Project. 10 percent must be raised through public participation.

City Chief Dhanraj Acharya said that 10 percent of the amount will be borne by the Metropolitan Corporation. He said that it would be difficult to get people's participation in large investment projects and that the Metropolitan Corporation would pay 10 percent of the amount to guarantee the right to clean drinking water.
