The contract agreement for the bridge to be built in Firkekhola to connect Pokhara Metropolitan City-4 and 5 has been broken. Road Division Office Pokhara signed a contract for the construction of the bridge in October 2075, but the construction company did not complete the work and the office broke the contract.
Navraj Bastola, Head of Road Division Office and Senior Divisional Engineer Navraj Bastola, said that the peace and health JV Sanepa Lalitpur, which received the contract for the construction of the bridge, had to terminate the contract because it did not work even though the deadline was extended several times.
He said, 'Despite extending the deadline several times to complete the bridge construction, the contract agreement has been terminated as per the rules, due to lack of commitment and diligence to complete the work that has not been completed. Now after the source is confirmed by the Ministry of Finance, the new contract process will start.'
Likewise, the road division office has recommended that Shanti-Arogya JV, the construction company of the bridge, be blacklisted. According to the Public Procurement Act, 2063 Section 59 (8) and the provisions of the contract agreement, the amount of the performance, deposit guarantee and bond will be confiscated. Also, within eight to 15 days, we will evaluate the updated work and the remaining work at the Pokhara office, administration, treasury and accounting controller office, and builders or their official representatives,' he said.
The process of constructing a new bridge has been started after an accident occurred due to a narrow bridge over Firkekhola in the middle of the six-lane road from zero km of Pokhara to Vindhyavasini under the Pokhara-Baglung highway. The road division office had signed a contract for Rs 17 million 10 million for the construction of two narrow bridges, 11 meters wide and 50-50 meters long.
Although there was an agreement that the construction of the bridge should be completed within 30 months of the contract i.e. 2077 Chait 30, the construction company was hesitating by making various excuses. The deadline to complete the construction of the bridge was extended three times.
According to the road, many accidents are happening because the Firkekhola bridge is narrow. The local residents were also putting pressure on the office including the district administration to complete the construction of the bridge within the stipulated time.
