According to the Mustang Customs Office, there is no restriction on bringing goods needed for household purposes through Korla border crossing. This information was given by the Mustang Customs Office during the discussion on business promotion of Korlana held in Lomanthang on Friday under the joint project of Lomanthang and Loghekar Damodarkund Rural Municipality.
In the discussion held in the presence of the Chief District Officer of Mustang, Bishnu Prasad Bhusal, in the presence of Mustang Customs, Immigration Office, Administration, Security Agency, local people's representatives and local businessmen, there was a discussion to find out the current problems in business promotion and the way to solve them. Karbir Gayre, head of Mustang Customs Office, said that there is a problem in managing local staff at the Customs Office.
Despite the opening of the checkpoint, Chief Gayre mentioned that there is a problem in collecting the revenue of the goods imported from the Korla checkpoint due to the lack of necessary manpower and infrastructure in the Mustang office. But he said that since the government has made arrangements to bring household goods without commercial purposes, the customs office will not create any obstacles to bring such goods.
Customs chief Gayre says that there is no customs infrastructure and the current situation is that illegal activities are likely to increase if goods are allowed to be brought in for commercial purposes. Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal said that the customs office should focus on facilitating trade through the Korla border crossing.
In the discussion held on Korla border trade promotion (Nepal-China), it was decided to start business by bringing goods from Korla border between the two countries and to take initiatives in the relevant bodies to solve the problems of local business, Acting Administrative Officer of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, Bikas KC informed.
Likewise, it has been decided to initiate the operation of customs and immigration office and to establish other offices related to the customs office to facilitate the business of Korla border crossing. Similarly, it has been decided to take the initiative of facilitation for local businessmen to do business easily in the border village of Upper Mustang.
Korla Naka has been open for the citizens of Upper Mustang for twelve months since 27th Kartik 2080. But after illegal electronic cigarettes (Vape) were seized from Korla checkpoint last December, the Mustang Customs Office has strictly monitored the goods brought through this checkpoint. Upallo Mustang, which has been doing easy business for 14 months after the opening of the border crossing, has not been able to bring goods from Korla crossing for the last five months.
