Excavation has started after the Supreme Court rejected the writ regarding the mining of Kaligandaki river. After the Supreme Court issued an interim order on 29th June 2078 and ordered to stop all activities related to river excavation, the excavation, which had been stopped for four years, resumed.

Last November 11th, the bench of Supreme Court Judges Dr. Kumar Chundal and Vinod Sharma dismissed the said writ.

A writ was filed in the Supreme Court stating that there was illegal theft and exploitation of river products in the Kaligandaki river flowing through Myagdi, Parbat, Baglung, Syangja, Palpa and Tanahun at various local levels. Jaljala Rural Municipality of Parbat has called for a contract for excavation after the order to cancel the retoper.

The rural municipality has published a notice on 20th of February and has given the responsibility to various individuals and companies to excavate from nine places of Ghatgaddi river Kaligandaki within the municipality. Chairman of the rural municipality Rajuprasad Acharya informed that a contract worth 1 crore 77 lakhs has been invited. According to him, the excavation process, which was stopped for four years after the court order, has now started.

After the order of the Supreme Court, Kushma Municipality and Jaljala Rural Municipality of Parbat were not able to call for contracts for the extraction of river materials for three years. The Jaljala rural municipality has repeatedly requested that the case be settled by prioritizing the case for the final decision, saying that the income from the sale and distribution of river products has been stopped.

When the incidents of illegal mining in the Kaligandaki river increased, the stakeholders filed a case in the Supreme Court to prevent it. Even after the cancellation of the writ, the district monitoring committee has been asked to show proactivity for protection and monitoring to protect the holy Kaligandaki river and prevent the illegal theft and export of Shalagram stone.

Even though the municipality did not award the contract, the illegal excavation of the river was still going on. Acharya, Chairman of Jaljala, said that after the invitation for contracts, extraction and sale of river products will be carried out in a systematic manner and this will also increase the income of the municipality. He says that this will help in the development of the municipality.

Kushma Municipality has not shown any interest in the extraction of river-related materials. Illegal mining and illegal mining are taking place when the municipality does not sign the contract.
