The excreta management center built near Sudeko Bridge located in Beas Municipality-13 of the district has been unused for seven years.
The center, which was built in 2074 with the purpose of 'treating' the excreta released from the toilet and using it as fertilizer, has fallen into disuse.
At the time, small urban and drinking water projects had allocated Rs 120 million under the sanitation program. In which there was construction of eight kilometers of paved canal in Damauli market area, one tipper to Beas municipality for waste management, construction of public toilet and excreta management.
Amar Giri, manager of Damauli drinking water and sanitation consumer organization, informed that about 4 crores have been invested only for the excreta management. The Excreta Management Center was built with 85% investment from the Government of Nepal and 15% from the local level. The construction company Raman Construction Pvt Ltd said that they still need to get 80 million for the construction.
Baikunth Neupane, head of Beas Municipality, said that the center has become useless after the construction was not handed over to Beas Municipality. "The plan started by the federal government was supposed to be completed the same year, but it was completed only the next year. The confusion over who will be in charge after the constitution has become stuck," he said.
