To encourage birth registration, Bhirkot Municipality-8 has started a campaign to open an account and deposit five thousand after the birth of a child. The ward office has started the campaign from the current financial year.
Ward Chairman Nandlal Khanal said that after the birth of a child, 5,000 will be deposited by the ward office and 5,000 by the parents in a total account of 10,000 to be applied to all newborns who register their birth at the 8 ward office.
He said that it is arranged that the family can withdraw the amount deposited in the child's account only after the child reaches the age of 18.
Since July of the current financial year, births of 31 children have been registered at the ward office. Along with the campaign to open accounts, the ward office has continued to meet the new-borns with roosters, distribute warm votes, etc.
'We pay attention to the health and nutrition of mothers and babies of the golden thousand days, and ward people's representatives and health workers go door-to-door,' he said, 'we also give health counseling.'
