This is the second time that the black-breasted chanchar bird has been recorded in Nepal.
The team of Pokhara Panchi Samaj and ornithologist Manshant Ghimire, ornithologists Hathan Chaudhary and Gopi Shrestha recorded the bird in Dharan Forest during monitoring. Ghimire, president of the society, informed that this is the second record for Nepal and said that the first record for Nepal was done three years ago in Danavari of Ilam district.
2078 February 25th, the team of ornithologists Sanjeev Acharya, Carol Inskip and Tikaram Giri reported that the bird was identified at that time.
According to him, this chanchar is found from India to eastern Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam and from China to South Korea in the north. It also migrates to the low coastal areas in winter and the mountainous regions of China in summer. This bird is called 'Black Breast Thrush' in English.
Dharan forest spread over 50,000 hectares from 100 to 1,300 meters above sea level, located in Morang and Sunsari of Koshi province, is an important area for birds, said ornithologist Ghimire. Among the 42 areas of Nepal identified by Bird Life International, this forest is considered as an important forest.
