Banana that can be found anywhere is considered as a useful fruit to eat. But the banana peels that are wasted everywhere are being used by the women of Tanahun to produce useful materials.
Vidurahari Acharya, head of the Social Development Office, said that the women of Shuklagandaki municipality made useful materials out of wasted banana peels and developed handicraft skills. According to him, training is also being provided to transfer the skills of senior citizens to the new generation.
The principal Acharya told that the training to learn to produce and manufacture useful goods from banana pulp was provided with the purpose of making use of the local raw materials and time that are being wasted. He said, "We have given priority to the use of local raw materials, it will use the wasted raw materials and skills will be developed and passed on from generation to generation."
Based on the activity of the participants who received the basic training, another level of training will be given to them to make them skilled and professional. He said that through such training, it will help to make women skilled and financially strong.
Instructor Goma Amgai taught us how to make different materials such as dhakia, chakti, and bag by extracting fiber from banana stalks. She said that many kinds of materials including clothes can be made from banana pulp which is abundant in the village and it is also useful.
11 women of Shuklagandaki municipality have learned handicraft skills to prepare various useful materials from banana peels. If the women here can use the skills, it will help them to become financially strong . It was organized by the Shuklagand unit of Women Entrepreneurs Association with the technical support of Social Development Office.
Tulsi Shah, president of Shuklagandaki Women's Entrepreneurs Association, said that she was excited to learn the skills of making various materials from banana peels, which are only used for eating fruit. Other women participating in the training said that they will work towards becoming self-sufficient by combining the skills learned with income generation.
