Rafting has been conducted in Kaligandaki river which flows through the headquarters Beni. A short distance rafting has been conducted from Jaleshwar in Beni to Dobhan near Khulamanch since Wednesday, targeting the domestic tourists coming for the ongoing 8th Myagdi festival in Beni.
Gam Pun, the owner of Gandaki Hotel in Kalipool, said that rafting was conducted in collaboration with Nepal River Explorer Pvt Ltd. Pun has been conducting regular rafting in Kaligandaki river every winter. 'Jalayatra has been started for more entertainment for the spectators and tourists coming to the festival, we have provided rafting services for a short distance with a minimum fee,' he said.
It is said that rafting can be done for 800 per person from Jaleshwar in Beni to Dobhan of Myagdi and Kaligandaki river and 600 from Bagarphant to Dobhan. Santosh Giri, the guide, said that the hilly geography and coastal settlements around the river are considered the best for rafting in the Kaligandaki river.
He informed that rafting can be conducted even over long distances if there is a group of people who want to enjoy the water journey. For the time being, two eight-passenger capacity boats have been operated. Although priority has been given to Galeshwar-Beni, according to the wishes of travelers and tourists, it is said that water trips can also be conducted from Maldhunga to Mirmi via Nayapul via Beni.
Chairman of Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Suvin Shrestha highlighted the possibility of water travel in the area around Beni and said that rafting is expected to help in tourism promotion. He informed that an initiative is being taken to conduct rafting from Beni municipality-9 Galeshwardham to reach Mirmi via Maldhunga-Nyanpul via Dobhan, the headquarter of Beni.
