This year's first snowfall in Manang

It snowed in the Himalayan district of Manang in the last week of December. The residents of Manang, who were worried about the lack of snowfall, are now happy.

Even though it was very cold, it did not snow here. Although it snowed from December in previous years, this year it snowed only in the last week of December. Gurung, a farmer of Nisyang Rural Municipality-1 Pisang, said that the hillocks, which are about to turn into black rock after the snowfall, are covered with snow. Gurung said that he was happy that the snow fell late. He said, 'Though there is no heavy snowfall, it has started, it has raised some hope.' He said that he was happy when it snowed, noting that the agricultural products produced by him would only last for two months. He says that after the snowfall, the land and manure will be wet and lush and the crops will grow.

According to the farmers, after snowfall, the production of valuable herbs such as yarsagumba, nirmansi, panchaumale, chiraito etc. increases and the snow that falls in the lower part works as fertilizer for farming. Sherap Bista, a farmer from Manang Chame who irrigated only two weeks ago, said that the snowfall brought happiness.

Naso Rural Municipality-8  Tachaika Yagya Ghale said tourism business has been affected due to lack of snow in the Himalayan region. He said, 'If there is no snow in the Himalayan district where there is no factory, what will the tourists come to see? The natural beauty had started to disappear.' According to him, tourists increase when it snows. The beauty of the mountains remains.

Due to climate change, the mountains of Manang are turning into black stone due to lack of snowfall in time. More than half of the mountains including Annapurna, Gangapurna, Lamjung etc. have been transformed into limestone. Thuten Lama, Ward President of Nason Rural Municipality-5, said that although there was some scattered snow in the upper part of the district, there was no sign of snow yet in the lower part. He said that there is no moisture due to the lack of snowfall, and it is difficult to plow in the places where potatoes, lice and lice are sown.
