After about a month and a half long exercise, Congress has become a participant in the Koshi state government. Congress joined the government on Friday with three ministers and one minister of state. Due to factional problems, Congress joined the government late. However, factional bitterness within the Congress is still visible.
On Friday, only the establishment and Citaula parties participated in the government. Ministers from the Shekhar Koirala group, which has a good influence in Koshi's politics, have not yet been decided.
'The Koirala party has demanded two ministries,' a leader of Congress Koshi said, 'Koirala group did not come to the government because they did not get two ministers.' Shekhar group demanded two ministers . However, to give him two ministries, it seems that the ministry itself will have to be split.
Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki is not in favor of splitting the ministry in the name of pleasing the Shekhar group. Congress chief whip Gopal Tamang claimed that the Shekhar Koirala group will also join the government soon.
Earlier, between the UML-Congress top leadership, the establishment was shared by two ministers and the Sitaula and Koirala groups were divided by one minister and one state minister. After Koirala sought two full ministers, the Congress joined the UML-led government on Friday without this group. The four ministers who took oath on Friday are new faces.
Congress Koshi state general minister and former chief whip Bhupendra Rai participated in the government led by Khotang Rai belongs to the Sitaula group . Elected from Khotang 1(2), he became a minister for the first time. Rai will take over the leadership of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure.
Taplejung Member of Parliament Khagensingh Hangam Industry, Agriculture and Cooperative and from the same group MP from Sunsari Sadanand Mandal has become Minister of Tourism, Forest and Environment. Hangam is an MP elected from Taplejung 1(2) and Mandal 4(1).
Bhumiprasad Rajvanshi of Jhapa, a member of the Citaula Group, has become the Minister of State for Physical Infrastructure. He is an elected Member of Parliament of Jhapa 3 (1). After the central power equation between Maoist-UML changed, the Maoist center in Koshi left the alliance with UML on July 12 after the sudden power sharing between UML-Congress. Since then, UML has supported Congress only on Friday.
Three Congress ministers and one state minister have joined the government, but the government is still not complete. The Ministry of Health is yet to find a minister. The said ministry is under Chief Minister Karki. In Koshi, which has 9 ministries, five ministers including the Chief Minister and one state minister are part of the UML .
