Night flights have started at Rajviraj Airport from Monday. Along with this, night flights are now possible in 10 domestic airports of the country.
Buddha Air's ATR-72 aircraft, which left Kathmandu in the afternoon on Monday, took off from Rajviraj Airport at 8:20 pm for Kathmandu.
Although it was scheduled for 6:30 pm, the flight from Rajviraj to Kathmandu was also pushed back due to the delay in the arrival of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey.
According to Dhruvraj Shrestha, head of Rajviraj Airport, the Buddha Air plane with passengers for the night flight had landed at Rajviraj Airport at 5:30 pm on Monday. After a formal program in the presence of Minister Pandey, the Buddha's ship was scheduled to take off at night at 6:30 p.m. The schedule has been changed after Minister Pandey did not come on time.
Previously, flights used to fly at Rajviraj Airport only with a minimum visibility of 5,000 meters. After the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority installed a 'light system' to guide the aircraft on the runway for night flights, it is now possible to fly during the day or at night even with a minimum visibility of 2000 meters. The director general of the authority, Pradeep Adhikari, said that except for Bharatpur, all the airports in the Terai are ready for night flights, and within a few days, Surkhet airport will also be made eligible for night flights.
Tourism Minister Pandey said that along with the upgradation of Rajviraj Airport, tourism activity will increase in the religious and cultural areas of Saptari. In the
