Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli made a mild comment about the peaceful demonstration of teachers a week ago, 'Now the teachers' movement is going on, why are you able to do it, fellow teachers? I don't know. I am the Prime Minister. I have said that there is no need to protest when someone comes with legitimate demands. We provide a solution for it, we are ready to address it. You don't have to suffer, you don't have to go to the streets and sleep.'

Hearing this expression of the Prime Minister, it seems that thousands of teachers from every corner of the country are taking to the streets of the capital every day for no reason or desire. Yesterday, on New Year's Day, he sat on the street in a frenzy. If the Prime Minister's statement is to be believed, it seems that the teachers do not have any demands that the government should address.

However, this is not the first time that teachers have come to Kathmandu and protested. Three times the teachers had to come to the streets, the state also agreed. Due to lack of readiness in implementation, teachers are having to agitate again and again.

The current Prime Minister Oli is the top leader who, when he was in the opposition, "the gurus are not just coming from all over the country and protesting on the streets". They are not raising their voice. He criticized the government saying that the problems of the gurus should be heard. "Teachers are protesting, local levels are threatening". Should the government be threatened? It is not to threaten the gurus', this is his expression .

He criticized the then government for not listening to the demonstrations of the intelligentsia. But, now that he is in power, why did his speech change? He said, "There is a traveling school". There are so many disruptive teachers. It means to make the temporary permanent. It means to keep the covenant. If the salary is not enough, it means to raise it . To make 48 percent pass ? 52 percent to fail ? ...Private schools have given respect to that too.'

After coming to power, Prime Minister Oli has shown so much anger towards those teachers, as if the problems he saw while in the opposition have been solved by magic. However, what is the reality is that this expression of the Prime Minister clearly shows that he has encouraged private schools . It shows that he wants to privatize schools . Article 31 of Part 3 of the Constitution of Nepal has ensured that 'every citizen has the right to compulsory and free education from the state to the basic level'.

But, if private schools are encouraged and government ones are discouraged, can the people get free education according to the spirit of the constitution? It is clear that the government is not in favor of listening to the matter of complete free education, adequate physical facilities for schools, child-friendly environment, adequacy of educational materials, professional rights and interests of teachers.

By giving a 52 percent failure rate and putting all the blame on the teachers, the state seems to be daring to act against the purpose of the constitution. They do not want to take the policy of admitting students to government schools after providing facilities to public schools.

The term 'every citizen' mentioned in the constitution means any Nepalese living within the dominion of Nepal. When the leadership level of the government shows that the teachers of the public schools are not teaching and keep the parents and students in despair, as many students as possible will also go to the private schools . However, will the right of every citizen to get free education be ensured?

The teachers who have been on the streets since last Chaitra 20th have a formal demand, that the Education Act be promulgated. During this period, the world has heard about the movement of the teachers with their thunderous voices . But the government did not listen. When the teachers should have been in the school room, they have been subjected to the rap of the hot road and have started a peaceful protest.

The government formed after the restoration of the republic in Nepal in 2046 changed the names of every function, the government of Shri 5 became the government of Nepal, the royal Nepali army, the Nepali army became . More common names have changed. However, those changes have not brought much change in the daily living standards of the people . The educational sector is still running under the Panchayati Act of 2028.

When studies were taught according to this law, the current leaders called it bourgeois education. Some did not study at that time because of the bourgeois education. The surprising thing is that this Act has not been changed till now. Let's say that the education under that Act has been called scientific education . Demanding the change of this Act, as called by the National Committee of the Nepal Teachers' Association, an indefinite street agitation is currently taking place .

Education under this Act cannot be scientific education . With the present education system, students cannot be made scientists, nor moral or skilled manpower . The alphanumeric system in evaluation has reduced the competition among students. Looking at the format of the question paper that will be asked in the exam, reading skills are not seen to be developed .

has devalued reading skills even more since it is called practical exam in all unnecessary subjects. Sometimes by adding practical marks to the results obtained from the theoretical exam, the class is promoted, sometimes if you get less than D grade in all seven subjects, the method of passing the exam within one month is not the magic of education? No one should forget that if the education sector deteriorates, the country will deteriorate .

Most of the students and parents want a paper copy of the pass . It is not difficult to understand clearly that the government wants a paper pass rather than quality education. It seems that the students feel as if they have received their education after receiving this paper certificate, saying that the government could not give them anything, and they are reluctant to go abroad every year.

If we say practical education, no one can put it into practice and earn money and live in the country. If we say complete theoretical education, there is no development of reading skills, they cannot dare to compete in the advertisements released by the government. After the students get the school education, they start to see their future as dark, and go abroad or get stuck in Kulat . Now the country is going through such education .

Singhdabar, which does not listen to the voice of the peaceful movement,

The teachers demand that a new education law should be promulgated, along with the professional rights of teachers, to replace the education act of 2028, which is a remnant of the panchayat system. The ongoing teachers' movement is an excellent example of peaceful protest in Nepal. Some teachers are telling their stories by singing songs, some are trying to remind them by showing magic.

They have been sitting on the road for a certain time and have been evacuated at a certain time . Until recently, the management was arranged so as not to affect the arrival of vehicles by performing only in the middle lane. However, now that the government is not listening to the teachers, there is a situation where the demonstration should be increased in all the three lanes . In a democracy, the government should have assumed the guardianship of the movement. But Singh Durbar is not in favor of listening to the peaceful protest of teachers.

In a democracy, the voice of the people should be heard. Violent demonstrations took place in Tinkune, and there are riots in other demonstrations as well. Isn't it a matter of irony that a violent demonstration is a movement, and it is not considered a movement when it is peaceful? The question arises why the government does not listen to the voices of the concerned parties before reaching that level?

The teachers who teach others are doing admirable movement in this Kathmandu too . The teacher has tried to change the word movement, which has become synonymous with vandalism, arson and piles of garbage. No garbage can be found anywhere . If there is scattered garbage, the teacher volunteers manage it.

While all the protestors are facing punishment for littering, Metropolitan Chief Balen has openly praised . This is also learning, the teacher is teaching . The nation did not have to bear the loss of wealth. Therefore, the government should also show seriousness in the matter raised by the teachers to make it clear that the government listens to the voice of the peaceful movement.

Even before the start of the movement, the government should adopt this issue, how to make education, how to increase the self-confidence of teachers, how to make students self-employed in the country, and to address the wishes and desires of parents, and show priority in bringing a democratic education law.

Teacher's demands

Nepali teachers have been holding protests many times. This movement is not done for the first time . The government always says to negotiate, the teachers negotiate, an agreement is reached and the teachers return to school and are committed to their profession because they fear the community and do not want to play with the future of the students, but the government slows down.

On the contrary, the government tags teachers as permanent, temporary, contract, private, child teachers, where the teachers do not see their future . Children's teachers and school staff are working on very low wages. There is no arrangement for periodic promotion of permanent teachers.

Although the commissions for the permanent recruitment of teachers have started opening for a few years now, there are still many problems. Wasn't it the same as keeping a shepherd while keeping a teacher under contract for years? Teachers do not want to live under the local level . Because so far the teachers have been appointed by the federal government to open the commission. Law is never backward-looking. In addition, to keep education away from local level politics, it is necessary for teachers to be under the federal government . In many other questions, the government has also agreed with the teachers in 2075, 078 and 080. Isn't it a shame for the government to ignore the demands of the teachers who produce skilled manpower in this way? (Pokhrel is the teacher of Kankai Mavi of Jhapa)
