Ramechhap's Halede-Dhobi-Sirise-Dhade road has been completely blocked due to landslides after the rain.
The road was blocked after a landslide fell from above the road in Darim Bot, Tilpung, Likhutamakoshi Rural Municipality-7 on Monday morning.
Saroj Kumar Alemagar, a ward member of Likhutamakoshi Rural Municipality-7, said that even motorcycles could not ply on the road due to the landslide.
According to him, coordination is being done with the Infrastructure Development Office, Ramechhap, to open the road. 'A large landslide fell from above with the rains last night. The road is completely closed. Even motorcycles cannot cross,' he said, 'Necessary initiatives are being taken to remove the landslide and bring the road into operation.'
After the road was blocked, vehicles travelling from various wards of Likhutamakoshi Rural Municipality and Okhaldhunga district towards the capital Kathmandu have been stopped on the road. Passengers are stranded.
Halede-Dhobi-Sirise-Dhade road is the main road connecting Ramechhap to Pokali in Okhaldhunga. Local and long-distance vehicles operate daily through this route.
Meanwhile, the road has become more risky now because the blacktop done on the Tilpung section of the same road towards the end of the last fiscal year was of poor quality. According to ward member Ale Magar, 4.2 kilometers of the road had been blacktopped by Gaurishankar-Rupakali JV through the Infrastructure Development Office, Ramechhap, under the budget of the Bagmati Province government.
Although the construction that began on Asad 18, 2080 was completed by Asad 2082, within a month, the blacktop had peeled off in places, the road had caved in, and the protective structures built on the walls had started to collapse. He claimed that many parts of the road are still at risk. 'Many places on the road are at risk due to poor quality construction. "In some places, even settlements are at risk," he said. "Landslides have occurred in various places due to water leaking from constructed drains. Despite informing the Infrastructure Development Office, Ramechhap, about this repeatedly, they did not give the necessary attention." He said that the weak road structure along with continuous rains has caused further damage.
