The load testing of the concrete bridge at Thedikhola, which came into the limelight after the span broke during construction, connecting Kunauri, Manthali Municipality-6 and Bhatauli, Ward No. 7, has been conducted. According to the Road Department, Bridge Sector, Kathmandu, there are no technical problems with the bridge and vehicular traffic has also started.
According to Ratna Laxmi Bajracharya, Project Chief of the Road Department, Bridge Sector, Kathmandu, the construction of the main structure of the bridge has been completed and load testing has also been conducted. Now, only some general finishing and time-keeping work is left on the approach road, she said.
'The broken span has been completely removed and a new one has been constructed. After that, all the necessary tests and load testing have been completed. There is no technical problem in the bridge at the present time,' said Bajracharya. According to her, the broken span was completely demolished and a new one was constructed without being repaired. Therefore, she claims that there is no risk related to the old structure.
'If only the damaged part had been repaired, there would have been a concern . But that part was completely removed and a new one was built. So there is no technical problem now,' she said . Project Chief Bajracharya said that the operation of vehicles on the bridge has already started . 'The vehicles have already passed over the bridge. Now the final handover process is pending,' she said . She clarified that the cost has not changed since there was no change in the previously approved design and contract agreement .
The project came into the limelight last year after the middle span of the bridge broke during construction. One span of the bridge, which has four spans, broke on April 26, 2082.
The construction of the bridge, which was awarded by the Road Department's Bridge Sector Kathmandu in the fiscal year 2078/79, was entrusted to Kalika-Kalpavriksha JV . As per the construction agreement, the work on the bridge will be completed by mid-Bhadra Although it was supposed to be completed by 2082, the company had set a target of completing it by Ashar.
The government had signed a contract agreement for the construction of the bridge, which is 230 meters long and 11 meters wide, for Rs 225.54 million excluding VAT and PS items. The office said that the construction of the bridge has been completed, but the official inauguration has not been held.
With the construction of this bridge, Ramechhap is directly connected to Khandadevi, Doramba, Shailung and Sunapati rural municipalities of Area No. 2 via Manthali, the district headquarters. From this bridge, it will be a short distance to go to the capital Kathmandu via Khandadevi, Sunapati and Kavrepalanchok.
