In the past year, 274 people have been infected with dengue in Chitwan district. According to Ram KC, pest controller of the District Public Health Office, 10,523 people were tested and dengue infection was detected in that number. Of the infected, 216 are from Chitwan and the remaining 58 are from other districts. He said that the highest number of dengue cases were detected in Ratnanagar Municipality, 87 people.
Dengue infection was detected in 56 people from Bharatpur Metropolitan City, 35 people from Khairhani Municipality, 21 people from Rapti Municipality, 11 people from Kalika Municipality, three from Madi Municipality and three from Ichchakamana Rural Municipality.
In the last fiscal year, 3,889 people were infected with dengue and one person died.
Dengue is especially common in Bhadra and Asoj as it is favorable for mosquitoes due to rain and sunshine. Doctors say that dengue disease is transmitted through the bite of female Aedes mosquitoes.
