A cold storage facility that had been lying idle for years in Sanimdau, Manthali Municipality-1 has come into operation. Three years after the construction of the main structure was completed, the warehouse was put into operation as a trial operation from Tuesday.

The 500 metric ton capacity cold storage facility, built at a cost of more than 70 million rupees in a 70/30 percent cost sharing between the Bagmati Province Government and Manthali Municipality, was built with the aim of safely storing the produce of local farmers. However, even though the main structure was ready, it could not be put into operation for a long time due to the lack of supporting infrastructure including fences, employee housing, toilets, etc.

The contract for the project, whose construction began in the fiscal year 2075/76, was taken by Kathmandu-based Easy Infra Pvt. Ltd. with the intention of completing it within the fiscal year 2077/78. However, as the construction company did not complete the work as per the agreement, only the main structure was completed in 2080 Shrawan.

After the warehouse could not be formally handed over to the municipality, the municipality had repeatedly requested and initiated the construction of the remaining structures. After that, in the current fiscal year 2082/83, the Bagmati Province government allocated Rs 5 million to complete the construction of the necessary structures including the barn, employee housing, and toilets. Bagmati Province Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Madhusudan Poudel inaugurated the trial operation of the cold storage house on Tuesday.

According to Manthali Municipality Mayor Love Shrestha, the Bagmati Province government has invested Rs 50 million and the municipality Rs 21 million in the construction of the main structure of the storage house. He said that the municipality also invested in the extension of the electricity line required for the operation of the storage house and the installation of TOD meters.

  1. According to Mayor Shrestha, the Bagmati Province government has allocated an additional Rs 3 million for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 to make the management and operation of the storage house, which has now started trial operation, systematic.
