The District Administration Office, Makawanpur, has initiated the monitoring and action process after discussions to bring the pharmaceutical business within the legal framework.

After discussions with the pharmaceutical entrepreneurs operating in the district, the administration has stated that it will take strict action against the drug shops operating illegally, not registered and renewed, and not following the standards.

A discussion was held at the District Administration Office on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari on the issues of compliance with the Drug Act, regulations and procedures, registration and renewal, consumer rights, and the responsibilities of the pharmaceutical business. During the discussion, the Chief District Officer said that since the pharmaceutical business is a sensitive sector directly related to the health of citizens, it should not be viewed as just a normal business.

Concern Medical, located in Phaparbari, Bagmati Rural Municipality, located in the eastern part of Makawanpur, has been fined two hundred thousand rupees. The district administration has stated that action was taken after it was found that the necessary standards were not followed in the operation of the pharmacy during the monitoring. The team monitored the cleanliness, storage, service delivery and legal standards in drug stores, hotels and food businesses.

Earlier, the district administration had directed to close more than 40 drug stores that had not been renewed. After the Department of Drug Management issued a notice canceling the operating certificates of more than 5,000 drug stores across the country that had not been renewed by 28 Jestha, pharmacies, vet pharmacies and Ayurveda pharmacies in Makawanpur were also included in the list of registration cancellations. The administration then instructed such shops to close their businesses.

The administration stated that monitoring was also conducted on the issue of persons licensed to sell and distribute drugs, the source of drugs, expiry date, price, billing, storage conditions and services provided to consumers.
