Manthali Municipality has announced a budget of Rs 1.32 billion for the fiscal year 2083/084.

The municipality has brought a budget of Rs 1.45 billion 64 thousand less than the previous fiscal year. Last year, the municipality presented a budget of Rs 1.46 billion 64 thousand.

Presenting the budget and programs at the municipal assembly held on Monday, Deputy Mayor Ishwori Basnet informed that education, health, agriculture, tourism, enterprise development and infrastructure construction have been put forward as the main priorities for the coming year.

The municipality has estimated that about Rs 97 million will be mobilized from internal resources, including internal income and accumulated funds. According to the municipality, the budget has made expansion of basic services, increase in production, job creation and inclusive development the main goals.

Presenting the progress report for the current fiscal year 2082/083 at the municipal assembly, Deputy Mayor Basnet informed that Rs 597 million has been spent till Jestha out of the budget of Rs 1.46 billion 65 million.
According to him, Rs 479.3 million has been spent on current expenditure and Rs 111.3 million on capital expenditure, which is about 60 percent of the total budget. It is estimated that the expenditure will reach 88 percent by the end of the fiscal year.

The policies and programs presented by Mayor Love Shrestha focus on quality education, easy health services, agricultural modernization, youth entrepreneurship and tourism promotion. Arrangements have been made to reward students who obtain 4 GPA in Class 8 and the Secondary Education Examination (SEE).

A 'Door-to-Door Health Worker' campaign will be launched in the health sector. The budget includes plans to make the citizen health program including yoga education more effective and to establish one yoga center in each of the 14 wards of the municipality.

The municipality has stated that a special program will be launched to increase production in the agricultural sector and protect indigenous crops. Distribution of farmer identity cards will be started, arrangements will be made for marketing of local agricultural produce up to Kathmandu, and the subsidies given to milk producers will be continued.

A 50 percent cost sharing program will be implemented in small and cottage industries to promote youth entrepreneurship. A plan to encourage young entrepreneurs by expanding self-employment opportunities has also been included in the budget.

Support will be provided for the preservation and promotion of major tourist destinations and local art and culture in the tourism sector. The municipality has adopted a policy of establishing a tourist consultation room, continuing the work of the under-construction waste management center, and supporting the promotion of the motor boat service operating on the Tamakoshi River.

Mayor Shrestha said that priority has also been given to the development of drinking water, roads, and other physical infrastructure. The municipality claims that the budget announced aims to build the foundation for sustainable and inclusive development through education, health, agriculture, tourism, and enterprise development.
