Vehicular movement on the short-distance Chitlang-Thankot road connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu will be closed from Sunday.

The Chitlang-Thankot Road (Ganeshaman Road) will be closed to traffic for 14 days from Jestha 17 to 30, i.e., from 14 days. The Road Division Kathmandu has stated that the construction company will close the traffic to carry out construction work including road slope, blacktop, and retaining wall construction.

The construction work on the Thankot-Chitlang road is underway, and due to the geographical location of the road section, vehicles passing through the construction site will obstruct the construction work and increase the risk of accidents, so Purushottam Bhandari, an engineer at the Road Division Kathmandu, informed that the work will be done by closing the traffic. 'Work will be done on about seven and a half kilometers of the road section, including blacktop and slope,' he said.

Of the section where the retaining wall will be constructed, blacktop, and slope will be done, about 1,900 meters will be worked on towards Makawanpur and the rest will be done on the section towards Kathmandu. The construction company will construct retaining walls at three to four places and make a 1,200-meter slope. The road section from Panighat in Kathmandu to Chitlang Bazaar in Makawanpur will be completely closed during the road upgrade. The Road Division, Kathmandu, has requested Thaha Municipality and Chandragiri Municipality to provide necessary facilitation by using alternative routes for vehicle movement during the said period.

From Saturday, vehicles have also been banned from travelling on the Hetauda-Kulekhani-Fakhel-Pharping road. The road has been banned for one month as the under-construction bridge over Mahalaxmi Khola and the bridge's access road need to be sloped. The Kulekhani-Sisneri-Dakshinkali road, a short-distance alternative route to Kathmandu from Hetauda, is open. Vehicles traveling short distances should use Kulekhani-Sisneri-Dakshinkali.
