A 216-meter-long suspension bridge has been constructed in Umakunda Rural Municipality-7, Thinkepu. After the bridge, which was built with the support of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, came into operation, the locals of Bumdel and Pipaldanda areas have become comfortable in their movement.

Earlier, due to the Saridandya landslide, the locals were forced to travel at great risk during the rainy season. According to local Bimala Shrestha, the Saridandya landslide is considered the second largest after the Ghyapche landslide in Ramechhap district. Due to this landslide, it used to be very difficult for the citizens of Bumdel, Pipaldanda and other villages to reach the ward office, school and other service centers.

Shrestha says that after the construction of the suspension bridge after the long-standing demand of the locals, movement has now become safe and comfortable. 'Due to the Saridandya landslide, people from students to the general public had to walk at risk of their lives.' "There has been a lot of relief now that the bridge has been built," he said. According to Rudramani Newar, ward chairman of Umakunda Rural Municipality-7, the bridge was built in the former ward no. 3, Thinkepu, with a budget of more than Rs 24 million from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development. He said that the bridge connects Bumdel Danda near the ward office and also makes it easier to reach the Likhutamakoshi area via Pipal Danda and Fastu.

According to him, with the construction of the bridge, the fear of landslides has reduced and it has provided great convenience to students coming and going to Kasthem Secondary School for studies and locals coming to avail services of the ward office. Ward chairman Newar informed that since some work on the bridge is still pending, the construction company has been asked to complete the work quickly.
