Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the biggest responsibility of the Congress at present is to protect the constitution. While inaugurating the Bagmati Province-level gathering of the Congress focusing on provinces and local levels on Monday, President Thapa said that the main responsibility of the Congress at present is to protect the constitution.

'If the government tries to deviate from the track of the constitution due to the arrogance of numbers, it is the job of the Congress to catch it and keep it on the right path,' he said.

He warned that the Congress will not remain silent if the government interferes with the constitution, law and civil rights. He mentioned that respecting the court, parliament and constitutional institutions ultimately means respecting the citizens. He said that the Congress will raise its voice clearly if the state does injustice to landless squatters, Dalits and the weaker sections.

He said that the main challenge facing the country at present is the economic crisis. Stating that inflation has affected both the citizens' 'pockets and kitchens', he said that despite having sufficient funds in the bank, investments have not been made, businesses have reached a point where they cannot repay loans, and even farmers are in trouble. He said that the government should now focus on improving the economy rather than political disputes. Thapa claimed that the Congress is not just a party formed for elections, but a force for nation-building, establishing democracy, and laying the foundation of modern Nepal. Expressing dissatisfaction with the factionalism and public disputes within the party, Thapa said that this has weakened the image of the Congress. He also announced plans to update active membership through the use of technology, communicate directly with millions of members, and ensure direct participation of members in the local level candidate selection process. He has instructed the leaders and workers to work by keeping the interests of the nation, democracy, and citizens at the center, rather than targeting the upcoming local level elections.
