Bagmati Province has declared a public holiday on Baisakh 24. The Bagmati Province Government has declared a public holiday on Baisakh 24 throughout the province on the occasion of Language Day.

According to the notice published on Chaitra 23, 2082, in Section 9, No. 9, Province Gazette, Part 3, it has been decided to declare a public holiday on Baisakh 24, Thursday, on the occasion of the Provincial Government's Official Language Day.

Government, public institutions and schools will be closed throughout the province on that day. The Bagmati Government has been celebrating Language Day on Baisakh 24, 2080, by implementing the Provincial Government Language Act. The provincial government has legally recognized Nepali as the official working language, Tamang and Newari languages. Bagmati Province has made three official working languages.

The province is home to the largest number of Tamang communities. Tamangs make up 20.54 percent of the total population in Bagmati Province. The Brahmin community accounts for 18.32 percent of the population in this province. The Chhetri community accounts for 17.13 percent and the Newar community accounts for 17.7 percent. The population of Magar, Bishwakarma and Gurung is 4.87, 2.5 and 2.22 percent of the total population of the province respectively. The population of Tharu, Rai, Damai, Sarki and Chepang is 1.63, 1.52, 1.36, 1.32 and 1.16 percent of the total population of the province respectively. According to the 2078 BS census, Bagmati Province has a population of 61 lakh 16 thousand 866. Similarly, the most widely spoken language in the province is Nepali. 67.23 percent speak Nepali while 18.49 percent speak Tamang. Similarly, 12.44 percent speak Nepali (Newari).
