Passengers stranded between Laskot and Ghumaune in Roshi Rural Municipality-7 along the BP Highway were rescued last night.
A joint team of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force rescued 89 passengers of five microbuses safely last night and sent them to their destinations. It is said that the vehicles coming towards Kathmandu were stopped after the water flow in the Roshi River increased due to Monday's rain. Kavre Police Chief Superintendent of Police Komal Shah said that the stranded passengers were rescued safely during the night due to the alertness and hard work of the security forces. Chief District Officer Gopal Adhikari and other security forces were deployed on the ground for the rescue.
After the flood after the rain started washing away the temporary diversion built on the BP Highway in the Roshi area, the security forces had closed the area from 5:00 pm on Monday. After the highway was blocked, vehicles were 'held' at the entrances of the highway at Dhulikhel and Kavrebhanjyang and at Mangaltar and Nepalthok in Sindhuli, according to the District Traffic Office, Banepa.
Considering the potential risk, a police team deployed by the Nepal Police and Traffic Police stopped the microbus driver at a safe place and said that he had negligently ignored the lives of the passengers. The police have taken the driver of the microbus into custody at the District Police Office, Dhulikhel, and an investigation is underway.
Considering the risk of the BP Highway due to the afternoon rain, the security forces had closed the movement since Monday evening. The District Police Office, Dhulikhel, has closed the movement on the road section from Chowkidanda in Katunje in Namobuddha Nagar in Kavre to Nepalthok in Sindhuli.
The police have requested the public to travel only after understanding the condition of the highway, and road users have also been appealed not to travel on that section until further notice.
Due to unseasonal rains, the Roshi River has repeatedly blocked the road due to the flooding of temporary diversions at various places along the BP Highway from Chowkidanda in Namobuddha Municipality in Kavre to Nepalthok in Sindhuli.
After last year's floods and landslides washed away 18 km of road in the Chowkidanda, Roshi and Nepalthok areas of Ragmarg, traffic was being carried out by constructing diversions in the river. Currently, a permanent road is being constructed in the area, according to the Division Road Office, Bhaktapur.
