The construction of the Hetauda-Dhalkebar-Inruwa 400 kV transmission line has resumed.
The work, which had been stalled for a long time due to local disputes, has been taken forward with the construction of the base for the tower in the heavy presence of security personnel since Tuesday.
The work of expanding the transmission line was stalled due to obstruction by locals in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-15, 16 and 17 of Makawanpur. The situation became tense for some time after local residents protested and tried to obstruct the construction work. Police have been mobilized at the site where the tower is being built and the wires are being pulled.
The affected people had taken a stand against the extension of the transmission line on private and numbered land without compensation. The locals had been demanding that the transmission line should not be laid through settlements, that proper compensation should be ensured if it is necessary, and that clear information be provided about the health and long-term effects.
The construction of the 288-kilometer transmission line from Thanabharyang substation in Hetauda to Inaruwa substation was started by dividing it into two sections. Of the Hetauda-Dhalkebar (134 km) and Dhalkebar-Inaruwa (154 km), the Dhalkebar-Inaruwa section has been completed and has been put into charge.
The Hetauda-Dhalkebar section has not been completed on time due to various obstacles. Out of the total 795 towers under the project, 98 towers are in Makwanpur district. So far, most of the towers have been completed, while 14 towers are yet to be constructed.
Of these, 2 towers are yet to be constructed in Ward 15, 10 in Ward 16 and 2 in Ward 17. The work of laying wires from Dhalkebar to Hetauda-17 has also been completed. The land where the tower will be located was acquired and compensation was distributed in 2075 BS. The power project has stated that some people have not understood the compensation. In addition, in the case of land under the wires, a compensation assessment committee has been formed under the coordination of the Chief District Officer and the work has been taken forward, said Project Director Shyam Kumar Yadav.
According to him, the state has had to bear losses of Rs 5 to 6 billion annually due to the project not being completed on time. The project, which was started in 2013 with a target of completion in two and a half years, has not yet been completed. The capacity of the currently operating 132 kV transmission line is only about 200 MW, so there has been a problem with electricity flow during the winter.
