Sharmila Tamang, 34, of Gokulganga Rural Municipality-6, Pharpu, who has been suffering from family violence for a long time, has been provided financial assistance by the Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC). Sharmila, who is struggling with pain in a hospital bed, has been handed over Rs 10,000 as relief.
INSEC District Representative Nawaraj Pathik handed over the assistance amount at a program organized at Manthali Nagar Hospital in Manthali on Sunday. Human Rights Protection Network Ramechhap Coordinator Pandav Prasai and Manthali Nagar Hospital Chief Dr. Keshav Dhami were present at the program. Sharmila was seriously injured after being beaten by her husband, 36-year-old Gopilal Tamang, on the night of Chaitra 15. She has said that she has been enduring continuous violence and torture since her love marriage in 2070 BS. She complains that there have been repeated beatings and attempts to assassinate her character.
After the incident, Sharmila, who was seriously injured, was initially treated at Tamakoshi Hospital in Manthali. After that, further treatment was started at Manthali Nagar Hospital and after a complex problem was found in her teeth, she was treated in Kathmandu and is continuing her treatment in Manthali again, informed the hospital chief Dr. Dhami. Along with Sharmila, her 12-year-old daughter Gunjan Tamang and 7-year-old son Sujal Tamang are in the hospital. After the incident, the police arrested Gopilal Tamang from his home on Chaitra 17 on charges of domestic violence. He is currently in police custody.
Pandav Prasai, coordinator of the Human Rights Protection Network Ramechhap, said that they are committed to providing justice to the victim. He pointed out the need for both society and state mechanisms to be sensitive against domestic violence against women.
