The helpless, disabled and elderly people of the hilly settlements of Makawanpur have expressed happiness after citizenship was made available at the doorstep. Residents of remote areas in the district are deprived of citizenship. Those who did not come to the district headquarters after not receiving a recommendation from the ward for citizenship were surprised to receive the service at the doorstep.
Sukumaya Chepang, 65, of Raksirang-9, Laiwang, was overjoyed after receiving her citizenship certificate on Tuesday. She had stayed at home after the ward office turned her back when she went to get the recommendation, saying that the documents were not enough.
She said that she came to get the service after Raksirang Rural Municipality Chairman Rajkumar Malla informed her that a citizenship team was coming to the village. She had not even been able to vote until now due to lack of citizenship. The rural municipality has been operating a large-scale integrated mobile camp since Chaitra 11, saying that ‘everyone has the right to get service at the doorstep’.
Local Suntalimaya Pariyar also obtained citizenship at a camp organized in Raksirang-9, Dantar on Monday. Despite approaching the district administration several times for a citizenship certificate, she was unable to do so. Pariyar, 50, is a single woman and mother of 8 children. She received the citizenship certificate from Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari in the village on Monday.
‘Now, I can get the allowance that a single woman gets,’ she said. In coordination with the rural municipality, the district administration team reached the remote village on Monday and distributed citizenship certificates to 30 people and also distributed 1,000 national identity cards.
The national identity cards of the locals who had filled out the forms at the district administration on various dates were printed and distributed in Dantar itself. The rural municipality had conducted a camp in Raksirang-1 on Chaitra 11. The Prime Minister's Employment Program, Women's Development Program, Small Enterprise Program, Allopathic Health Program, Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Plan Third Program, Ayurveda Health Program, Animal Health and Agriculture Development Program have been implemented in the camp. Under the Prime Minister's Employment Program, services such as filling out application forms for unemployment registration, counseling on foreign employment, and information on integrated employment services will be provided.
Under the Women's Development Program, services such as senior citizen honors, disability testing and distribution of identity cards, and psychosocial counseling will be provided. Under the Small Enterprise Program, information on new entrepreneur creation and ongoing entrepreneur selection, free counseling, entrepreneurship development training, technical skill development, technology transfer to groups and support in technology access, marketing services, and micro-financial assistance programs have been provided.
Under the Allopathic Health Program, tests by specialist doctors for all diseases including diabetes, blood pressure, tuberculosis, family planning (implant placement and removal), drug treatment, and counseling services for communicable and non-communicable diseases have been provided.
