The fire that broke out at Chari Bhir in Gumdel, Umakunda Rural Municipality-1, around 10 pm last night has not yet been brought under control.
According to Umakunda-1 Ward Secretary Kabita Bist, the fire that started at a place called Kedare is spreading rapidly. Some houses in the upper area are at risk due to the fire. Locals have been urged to remain alert and stay in safe places.
Ward Secretary Bist said that a team including the ward chairman has gone to the spot to control the fire. She also said that no clear information has been received so far about who started the fire and why.
As Gumdel ward is covered by about 80 percent forest area, it is initially estimated that the fire has caused great damage to herbs, vegetation and wild animals.
Although efforts are being made in coordination with locals, security personnel and concerned agencies to control the fire, the fire has not yet been completely brought under control.
