In Chitwan, which has three constituencies, 282,643 votes were cast in all constituencies, and 9,854 votes were invalidated. The Chitwan District Election Office organized a press conference at the District Administration Office on Monday to inform that the highest number of invalid votes was found in one ballot paper with more than one election symbol.

In terms of number and percentage, the highest number of invalid votes was in Chitwan-1. 3,683 votes were invalidated in Chitwan-1. Out of 149,621 voters, 95,582 votes were cast in Chitwan-1. 3.85 percent of the votes cast in Chitwan-1 were invalidated. 2,796 votes were invalidated in Chitwan-2 out of 87,288 votes.

There were 137,152 voters in Chitwan-2. Of the votes cast, 3.21 percent were invalid in Chitwan-2. The total number of voters in Chitwan-3 was 155,309. Of these, 133 voted in the direct election. Of which 3,375 votes were invalid. Of the votes cast, 3.37 percent were invalid.

Similarly, in the proportional election, 2,591 votes were invalid in Chitwan constituency 1, 1,961 in Chitwan-2, and 2,393 in Chitwan-3, said District Election Officer Bhimsen Karki. Of the invalid votes, the highest number of 3,350 votes were found in Chitwan-1, where more than one mark was stamped on the same ballot paper in the direct election.

The number of votes that were invalidated in Chitwan-2 was 2,481 and in Chitwan-3, 3,197 votes were invalidated due to more than one mark being stamped on the same ballot paper, Election Officer Karki informed. 217 votes were invalidated in Chitwan-1, 173 in Chitwan-1, and 60 in Chitwan-3 due to fingerprints or other marks being used instead of the swastika mark.

Although there were no ballot papers with blank marks in Chitwan-1, there were 78 in Chitwan-2 and 51 in Chitwan-3. Votes were also invalidated due to marks being placed between two marks and the swastika mark not being read. 18 candidates were in the fray in Chitwan Constituency No. 1 and 23/23 in Constituencies No. 2 and 3. The National Independent Party (RIP) won in all three constituencies.

Out of a total of 64 candidates, only the winning RSVP candidate in Chitwan-1, along with the Congress and CPN-UML candidates, the winning RSVP and Nepali Congress candidates in Chitwan-2, and the winning RSVP and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) candidates in Chitwan-3 have secured their deposits. If 10 percent of the votes are not received, the deposit, i.e. the deposit paid while registering the candidacy, is forfeited. The deposits of 57 out of 64 candidates have been forfeited.
