Security personnel have miked voters to come to cast their votes in Dolakha. Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Ghimire urged them to come to vote with confidence as security personnel have been deployed to prevent incidents like in the past.
‘Security personnel have prepared an environment for voting by miking,’ he said. ‘A different strategy has been made to protect the polling stations and ballot boxes, along with the safety of voters.’
He said that an environment for voting with confidence has been prepared this time as voters who were found during monitoring to have not been able to cast their votes in the past at polling stations considered to be very sensitive had complained. Voters have said that they have not been able to vote at some polling stations for years. After the fact that violent clashes and booth occupation were found on election day, Home Minister Ame Prakash Aryal along with Acting Chief Election Commissioner visited the polling station of Vaityashwar Rural Municipality-2 in the district for the first time during an inspection.
Home Minister Aryal returned after understanding the security strategy of all three security agencies. Immediately after that, Senior Superintendent of Nepal Police Somendrasingh Rather was sent to Dolakha. Chief District Officer Ghimire said that CCTV cameras have been installed in the outer perimeter of all polling stations in schools and ward offices. ‘CC cameras have been installed in the outer perimeter as far as possible in polling stations considered highly sensitive,’ he said, ‘There is no possibility in some polling stations, security personnel will closely monitor such polling stations.’ He said that security personnel have been mobilized to prevent fake votes and booth capture under any circumstances.
As the election time approaches, he claimed that this election will resolve the question of whether voters will be able to participate in the election peacefully or not.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Lama says that voters in polling stations considered highly sensitive have been given verbal consultations by going door to door to vote with confidence. "We have even given verbal advice to voters who complained about not being able to vote in the past elections, in some cases by going door to door to assure them of their safety," he said. "Voters have become more enthusiastic and are coming to vote because they feel safe." He said that vehicles entering the district are being checked continuously. "Surveillance has also been placed on suspicious individuals and groups. Night patrols have been increased in villages and areas considered highly sensitive," he said. Tight security in the district
Security has been tightened in the district to ensure that the election is peaceful and voters can exercise their right to vote. A large number of security personnel have been mobilized throughout the district to prevent possible violent clashes and booth occupation on the day of the election.
Polling officers, employees and security personnel have been deployed at polling stations along with election materials. The District Security Committee said that three mechanisms of the security agencies have been conducting joint patrols at polling stations considered highly sensitive since two weeks before the election and are conducting close monitoring.
Dolakha, which is always turbulent on election day, has doubts among the general voters whether the election day of the House of Representatives will be peaceful or not. For the first time, the district police will be mobilized under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Somendrasingh Rathore to conduct the election peacefully. Similarly, the security committee has said that senior officers of the Nepal Army and Armed Police Force have also arrived in the district to take charge of the security command of the election.
The security committee has placed 95 polling stations in the district on the highly sensitive list. 28 polling stations have been placed on the sensitive list and 15 polling stations on the general list.
Shooting and booth capture had become commonplace in Dolakha in every election. There have always been violent clashes and booth capture in all elections held since 2048.
Pradya District Officer Hari Prasad Ghimire said that such activities will be completely eliminated in the election to be held on Thursday. According to him, separate bases for the Nepal Army, district police and Armed Police Force have been set up two weeks in advance after identifying such places.
