Chitwan Police have informed that 63-year-old Sukmaya Devi Tamang of Ratnanagar Municipality was murdered with the intention of robbing her of her jewelry and cash. She was found dead in her home in Ratnanagar-4 on December 10.

Chitwan police have arrested five people on charges of involvement in his murder, informed a press conference held on Thursday.

Police have arrested Shukra Bahadur Bholon, 46, of Bara Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City-22, Ratnanagar-10, Suryaman Waiba, 42, of Jitpur Simara-22, Lalitpur Metropolitan City-10, Chyasal, Buddhiman Lama, 32, of Dhading Thakre Rural Municipality-5, Kau Bahadur Gurung, 31, of Syangja Biruwa-8, Pelka, Ratnanagar-4, and Hira Bahadur Syangtang, 47, of Makawanpur Thaha Municipality-12, Thankot, Kathmandu.

Chitwan District Police Office Superintendent of Police (SP) Govinda Puri said that Shukra Bahadur and Buddhiman had planned to rob the elderly woman and killed her with the help of three others. He also said that Shukra Bahadur had been staying at Sukmaya's house for two years.

Relatives had informed the police that gold ornaments, mobile phones and cash worth Rs 100,000, totalling Rs 1,536,700, were missing from Sukmaya's house. After the incident, the police investigated with the help of trained dogs and other technology.

Shukra Bahadur was arrested from Chitrasari in Ratnanagar and Suryaman from Sauraha Chowk. Police have informed that Buddhiman was arrested from Sardi Bagaucha in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-4 of Nawalparasi, Kau Bahadur from Fisling near Mugling and Hira Bahadur from Thankot in Kathmandu.

Police have recovered a mobile phone and a wallet used by Sukmaya from them. The Ratnanagar Area Police Office has stated that it is investigating the arrests to file cases of robbery as well as culpable homicide.
