A minister in Makawanpur on Sunday honored a goat by garlanding it. The goat was garlanded and fed with food on the occasion of the fifth Goat Day.
At the program organized at Simalthali Agro Pvt. Ltd. in Hetauda-3, Bagmati Province's Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Madhusudan Poudel inaugurated the program by garlanding goats with centipede flowers. After that, the program participants including the minister fed the goats in the pen. The Pvt. Ltd. has 900 goats of advanced breed. Minister Poudel said that the provincial government is making efforts to solve the problems in the goat farming sector. 'We are now becoming self-reliant in goat meat,' he said, 'The government is taking steps to discourage goat imports from India.' The day was celebrated with the slogan 'Professional goat farming is the pride of Nepalis, self-reliance in meat is our campaign'. Participants in the program complained that the sale of goats and goats produced has been affected because doctors advise against eating red meat. There are 42 goat farms in Makawanpur.
