The application deadline has been extended by two days after the Election Police in Ramechhap did not receive the expected applications for security for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21.
According to District Police Ramechhap Police Inspector Rajan Prasad Timsina, 1,333 election police are required for election security from Nepal Police. 96 are required from Armed Police.
Accordingly, applications were invited from December 25 to January 1. But after the required number of applications were not received within the stipulated time, the deadline has been extended to Saturday, January 3.
According to him, 779 applications had been submitted by January 1. Of which 576 are men and 203 are women.
As per the Election Commission's directive, there is a provision to temporarily mobilize election police to maintain peace and security throughout the election period. But this time the participation of youth in Ramechhap was not as expected. Police Inspector Timsina informed that the number of applicants has reached more than 800 by Friday afternoon after the deadline was extended. 'So far, 800 plus have been registered, the deadline is tomorrow, we hope to reach the required number,' he said.
The District Police Office has urged those who meet the specified qualifications to apply on time. Arrangements have been made to fill the application form of the Election Police from the Area Police Offices of Choprang (Khandadevi), Dhobidanda and Tokarpur.
There are 64 wards under 2 municipalities and 6 rural municipalities in Ramechhap. Two polling stations have been added this time due to the increase in the number of voters in the district, which is home to Constituency 1 of the House of Representatives.
According to District Election Officer Narayan Lamichhane, the number of polling stations in the previous election has increased to 228, while the number of polling stations has remained at 96.
