A municipal-level agriculture and small enterprise exhibition fair has begun in Manthali Municipality on Saturday with the aim of marketing local products and promoting the professionalism of farmers.

Bagmati Province Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Madhusudan Poudel inaugurated the fair, which will be held at Hate Chaur (Sombare Haat Complex) in Manthali-1 until Sunday.

At the inauguration ceremony, Minister Poudel said that such fairs are an important place for farmers and entrepreneurs to present their products, skills and problems. He said that organizing the fair by Manthali Municipality targeting farmers and small entrepreneurs is a positive and exemplary practice.

Anand Shrestha, Chairman of the Bagmati Province Assembly Industry, Tourism and Environment Committee, said that the fair was organized with the aim of connecting local agricultural products with the market and expressed his belief that it would create new opportunities for farmers. He said that such fairs would further help in the marketing, commercialization and mechanization of agricultural products.

Mayor Lav Shrestha informed that the fair has been organized since last year with the aim of expanding the city's source of income, promoting agricultural tourism and creating self-employment. He believes that the fair will help promote agricultural, livestock and small business products produced within the city and connect them to the market.

According to Nawaraj Thapa Magar, ward chairman and coordinator of the Economic Development Committee of Manthali Municipality-13, 52 stalls have been set up at the fair, including vegetables, fruits and nurseries, agricultural crops, livestock and small businesses. Free stalls, accommodation, food and concessions in transportation of materials have been arranged for the participating farmers and entrepreneurs.

The municipality has stated that the best farmers and entrepreneurs in 10 categories among the participants in the fair will be awarded Rs 6,700 each. Last year, about 7,000 visitors visited the fair, and products worth Rs 1 million were sold. This year, it is estimated that more than 10,000 people will visit the fair.
