Manthali Municipality is planning to organize a 'City-Level Agriculture and Small Enterprise Exhibition Fair' on the upcoming 26th and 27th of Poush to market local produce and promote the professionalism of farmers.
Nawaraj Thapa Magar, ward chairman and coordinator of the Economic Development Committee of Manthali Municipality-13, said that a two-day fair will be held at Hate Chaur (Sombare Haat premises) in Manthali-1. The fair will be inaugurated by Bagmati Province's Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Madhusudan Poudel.
Coordinator Thapa Magar said that 53 applications have been received so far for the exhibition. In which, 36 stalls will be for agricultural crops including vegetables, fruits and nurseries, 6 for livestock and 11 for small enterprises.
He said that the municipality has arranged free stalls for the participating entrepreneurs and has also made arrangements for accommodation, food and transportation of materials. 'The fair has been organized with the aim of promoting the products produced by farmers and exchanging skills with each other,' said Coordinator Thapa Magar. 'Based on past experience, this time we have tried to make it more systematic and effective.'
Last year, the fair, which was visited by about 7,000 visitors, sold products worth Rs 1 million.
Chief Administrative Officer Devarshi Sapkota said that the best farmers and entrepreneurs in 10 categories among the participants in the fair will be awarded Rs 6,700 each. According to him, a 6-member evaluation committee has been formed under the leadership of coordinator Thapa Magar to select the awards.
To make the evaluation process transparent, a procedure has been made in which only members other than the coordinator will provide marks. The municipality has stated that this program is being run with a budget of Rs 600,000 allocated from the 17th session of the Municipal Assembly.
