The Natural Reservoir Fisheries Promotion and Conservation Center, Hetauda, has released 52,000 fish fry of various species into the Manahari River in Makawanpur.
The center has released fish fry of Rahu, Naini and Bhakur species into the river with the aim of conserving aquatic diversity in natural reservoirs and improving the lives of communities dependent on the river.
Manahari Rural Municipality Chairman Ranjan Kalakheti, Chief Administrative Officer Ramesh Subedi, Ward No. 7 Chairman Thakur Titung, and Senior Fisheries Development Officer of the center Balram Acharya participated in the release of fish fry into the river near the Manahari bridge.
Manahari Rural Municipality Chairman Ranjan Kalakheti said that there is a community in the rural municipality that makes a living by fishing and that increasing fish production in the river will help that community. He said that since the number of fish has decreased due to the use of various electronic devices in the Manahari and Rapti rivers and various chemical waste, everyone should work together to stop such activities.
Acharya, Fisheries Development Officer of the center, said that releasing fry into the river will benefit the community that earns its living by fishing and will also help maintain biodiversity. The center had released more than 25,000 fry into the Karra River two months ago.
