The 19th Chitwan Elephant and Tourism Festival, which is underway in Sauraha, the tourist town of Chitwan, is concluding today with an elephant worship ceremony and a forest feast for elephants.

The hotels in Sauraha have been completely filled with visitors to observe the festival for the last two days, and the tourist area has become very lively.

Various entertainment activities including elephant beauty contest, boat race, penalty shootout have been held throughout the festival. Also, keeping in mind the demand of domestic and foreign tourists, a glimpse of the world-famous elephant polo was also presented at the festival venue, Baghmara Chaur on Saturday.

According to festival coordinator Gunaraj Thapaliya, some of the elephant polo materials were available, so a glimpse of the game was presented to increase the demand and enthusiasm of tourists. 'Although the game could not be fully conducted, the spectators and tourists were very excited when it was shown,' he said.

Coordinator Thapaliya informed that elephant worship will be held today on the last day of the festival, and elephants are being worshipped as gods. A special forest feast has been organized for elephants today. 'This time the elephant forest feast will be in buffet style. Elephants will be provided with their favorite dishes, from which they will be able to eat as much as they like. This will make the elephants feel happy,' he said.

Responding to the allegations of torture on elephants, he said that elephants are also sensitive creatures that feel pain and happiness. 'We know very well how elephants feel pain and how they feel happy. We have not carried out any kind of torture-related activities during the festival,' he clarified.

The festival organized at Baghmara Chaur in Sauraha is being co-organized by Ratnanagar Municipality Patron and United Elephant Operation Cooperative Society Limited. Around 80 elephants from the government and private sectors have participated in various activities of the festival. The organizing organization has been organizing the festival at this time every year.
