The Chitlang 'View Tower' built in Thaha Municipality-9, Makawanpur, has been operational since Wednesday.
The 'View Tower' was inaugurated by Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya. Chief Minister Baniya said that the Chitlang 'View Tower' will contribute to the development of the tourism sector of Thaha Municipality. Mayor of Thaha Municipality Bishnu Bista expressed confidence that the Chitlang 'View Tower' will attract domestic and foreign tourists to Thaha Municipality. The provincial government handed over the 'View Tower' to Thaha Municipality only last week. The Tourism Development Project has signed an agreement with Thaha Municipality for the operation and management of the View Tower. According to the agreement, Thaha Municipality can contract itself or other organizations or committees for the operation, use and management of the View Tower. The agreement states that 30 percent of the income generated from the tower operated in this way should be deposited in the revenue account of the Bagmati Province government on a semi-annual basis.
It has been agreed that 70 percent of the income will go to Thaha Municipality. The 10-point agreement makes it clear that the structure cannot be used for purposes other than tourism promotion.
If the Chitlang View Tower needs to be repaired, the agreement states that it will be done by the Ministry of Tourism of Bagmati Province for a one-time basis according to the cost estimate prepared with the participation of technology from Thaha Municipality and others.
The provincial government had taken up the construction of the 'View Tower' under the 'Chitlang Hill Station Package Program'. Along with the 'View Tower', a creation hall, toilet, retaining wall, gate, guard house and other auxiliary structures have been constructed in the project. The 'View Tower' was constructed at a cost of Rs 52.747 million. Along with this, the provincial government has constructed 11 'view towers' in 9 districts out of 13 districts since 2076 BS.
The provincial government has invested Rs 328.4 million in the construction of these 'view towers'. Roshan Srivastava, head of the Tourism Development Project, Hetauda, said that 5 of the 11 'view towers' have already come into operation.
