Discussions have been held among stakeholders on the issue of taking forward forest-related work in the Shaktikhor Industrial Zone. In the discussion held on Tuesday in the presence of Minister for Forest and Environment Madhav Prasad Chaulagain, a commitment has been expressed to take initiatives to remove obstacles seen in the construction of the industrial zone.
On Mangsir 29, the Shaktikhor Industrial Zone was monitored and observed in the presence of Chitwan Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal, General Manager of Industrial Area Management Limited Padam Oli, and officials of the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In continuation of that, on Poush 1, discussions were held between Minister Chaulagain and the concerned bodies to proceed with the stalled works.
The Shaktikhor Industrial Zone was declared by the Council of Ministers meeting held on Falgun 3, 2073, as per the government's goal of building an industrial zone in each province after the establishment of seven provinces. According to the measurement and survey conducted by specifying four forts, the area is spread over an area of 1,741 bigahs.
Although the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the Shaktikhor Industrial Zone have been approved, the construction has not been able to proceed due to obstacles in the forest-related processes, tree inventory, and tree numbering work.
During the discussion, General Manager of Industrial Area Management Limited Padam Oli had requested the minister to provide necessary coordination between the ministry and the concerned bodies for the operation of the industrial zone. Minister Chaulagain has assured that he will take the initiative to move forward with the stalled works.
Industrialists and businessmen have demanded that the work process related to EIA and IEE be made faster and easier. In a discussion with the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Minister has expressed his commitment that the process to be done by the Ministry of Forest and Environment will be moved forward as soon as possible.
