After a long dispute and legal entanglement, the demolition of permanent and temporary structures built on both sides of the main road in the Hetauda market area has begun since Saturday morning.

The Division Road Office has started the work of removing roadside structures by demolishing the building where the shop of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Rajesh Baniya is located.

The work of removing structures encroaching on the road has started from 5:30 am by mobilizing dozers from the Buddha Chowk area of Hetauda Bazaar. The work of demolishing the encroached buildings is continuing using about half a dozen dozers with extensive security arrangements.

The Division Road Office is removing permanent/temporary structures encroaching on the road in the main market area in a phased manner, said Pradya Basanta Adhikari. According to him, the work of demolishing structures is underway in the Rapti Road and Buddha Chowk areas of Hetauda.

Makawanpur Chief District Officer (PDO) Basanta Adhikari clarified that there is no situation where the work will be stopped as there has been no order from the Supreme Court to stop the road expansion in the Hetauda Bazaar area. “The road expansion work will move forward,” he said.

A case was filed in the Supreme Court on November 16 against the notice of demolition of structures in the Hetauda market area after it was made public. The court issued a short-term interim order on Friday and summoned both parties for discussion on November 16. However, the notice issued by the Road Division Office states that the road expansion work will continue as per the predetermined plan.

The Road Division Hetauda had earlier issued a notice on November 25 with a 15-day deadline to clear the road boundary area. As per the deadline, the office did not receive any instructions from any body to stop the work until November 19, so it has been decided to continue the road expansion work from Saturday.

According to the office's data, about 531 structures will have to be demolished within 9.5 kilometers of the market area. These structures are from Ratomate to Buddha Chowk to Rapti Bridge and from Buddha Chowk to Samari Bridge.

Of these, there are 234 structures on the right side of the road from the center point and 297 on the left side.
