The underground electrification work in the Bharatpur Metropolitan City area has been completed by 80 percent. The target was to complete the work by next Magh, and 80 percent of the work has been completed so far.

Nepal Electricity Authority's Pokhara-Bharatpur Distribution System Strengthening Project is carrying out underground electrification work on Bharatpur's 6-lane road and bypass road. According to Project Chief Engineer Anand Subedi, the project has started test transmission of electricity in the places where the work has been completed along with underground electrification. He informed that electricity has been supplied underground to 40 percent of the places within the project area.

'We have moved forward to complete the work by the end of the month or the second week of Magh,' he said, 'Currently, work is being done to lay cables, connect them to terminations, lay service cables to connect electricity to households, and build transformer posts.' He said that work has been moved forward to provide electricity service underground within three months. Even though electricity is supplied through underground transmission, the pole wires will not be removed for some time.

Earlier, it was said that only 33 KVA lines would be underground on the road from the Central Bus Terminal to Gondrang, but now an additional 11 KVA and 400 volt lines have been added to the underground, said Chief Engineer Subedi. As per the latest agreement, work has been carried out underground in the main urban area of Bharatpur Metropolitan City for the connection of the Chanauli line.

It will cost one billion 400 million to lay the electrical wires underground within Bharatpur Metropolitan City. Initially, a budget of one billion 300 million was allocated to Bharatpur. With the addition of work, an additional Rs 100 million has been added.

The construction contract was awarded to India's Tata Project Limited. The work was started by signing a contract agreement in October 2021. According to the contract agreement, the work was advanced by extending the deadline several times after the first phase expired on January 20, 2024. The deadline has been extended until July 2026. The Authority has taken up this project with the support of the Asian Development Bank.
