Dil Bahadur Shrestha, 65, has died after being hit by a bus in Panchkhal Municipality-4 along the Araniko Highway.
A bus (Ba 2 Kha 6579) of Araniko Yatayat, coming from Chautara in Sindhupalchowk towards Kathmandu, hit Shrestha, a pedestrian. According to local Rajan Karki, Shrestha, who was seriously injured after being hit by the bus at 8 am, died at Dhulikhel Hospital at 12 pm during treatment. According to eyewitnesses, the bus, which was overtaking another bus from the same direction, hit Shrestha, who was walking on the side of the road, throwing him 10 meters away.
Meanwhile, after Shrestha died during treatment, his relatives have blocked the Araniko Highway, demanding action and compensation against the driver. After the driver fled after the incident, the bus that hit him has been brought to the District Police Office, and the police have said that a search is underway for the driver.
Mayor Mahesh Kharel said that efforts are being made to compensate the victim and open the blocked highway.
